For many years it’s been difficult to play golf in Hong Kong, or should I say, try to improve your golf game in Hong Kong. This nothing to do with Hong Kong golf coaches but the fact that there’s so little places to practice in Hong Kong. A few years ago Central Golf was popular, they had many golf coaches and a good facility but the main golf tuition part was closed and it left them with just a pro shop and small hitting area where the golf simulator apparently didnt work half the time. City Golf was very popular but that too closed down a few years ago. City Links Golf Lounge then opened up and it too became popular and offered a variety of golf lesson programs in Hong Kong. However, the vulgar landlords increased the rent and they too had to close. Island Golf has also closed and now there are just a few places to take golf tuition and instruction in Hong Kong.
We’ve heard from several different sources that Asia Golf, one of the few remaining driving ranges in Hong Kong to take golf lessons, is also closing this year. We’ve also heard Nine Eagles, the nine hole course out by the airport is also closing down, to make way for a shopping mall – yeah Hong Kong needs another shopoping mall, especially by the airport. The course was a bit shite anyway, I mean for beginners, it wasn’t that easy, and it’s just too short to do anything useful for better players. So where does that leave people wanting to take golf lessons with their Hong Kong golf coach and instructor?
Up the creeek with half a paddle. Golf Ezy, a distributor of TruGolf simulators, is planning on opening a golf center in Central, but for now on Hong Kong Island, there’s just Golf Hideaway in Quarry Bay, and a small room with a simulator in Central. For anybody looking to learn golf on Hong Kong Island, the choise is limited. There’s the South China athletic club in Causeway Bay but that’s only open during certain hours and is looking rather old and more than a bit shabby.
