The Best Golf Driving Range in Hong Kong

So what is the best Golf Driving Range in Hong Kong? This is a question we get asked a lot and it’s not easily answered mostly due to the fact that aren’t many Golf Driving Range in Hong Kong to start with. Firstly what makes a good Golf Driving Range in Hong Kong? We think the following things need to be considered when deciding on the best Golf Driving Range in Hong Kong. The range location is a bit of a toughy because what may be a good location to some, may not be a good location for others obviously depending on where you live. But for us, the Hong Kong Golf School, probably the quality of golf balls is the most important factor when deciding the best Golf Driving Range in Hong Kong. If you have crap golf balls, then you’re not going to get the most out of the driving range session. Golf is hard and frustrating enough, so you don’t want to hit one of the best drives of your life only for a shitty old range ball to banana ball off about 100 yards. We think any decent driving range has to have good quality golf balls to be considered a good driving range, not just a Golf Driving Range in Hong Kong.

Next we think the quality of mats matters. Many of the Golf Driving Range in Hong Kong have shitty mats, it’s almost like hitting off concrete and if you’ve ever had your clubs customised, or bought a new club from somewhere like tourspingolf.com, you don’t want to be ruining those clubs by hitting off severely worn down driving range mats. Lastly, we factor in the actual range, where you hit the balls. It might not make a difference to your shots, but it certainly makes a difference to the atmosphere and your overall experience at any Golf Driving Range in Hong Kong.

So considering these factors, we think the best Golf Driving Range in Hong Kong is, and by a long, long, long way, the Hong Kong Golf Club Driving Range at Fanling. Sure, it’s not open to the public for most of the time, but the Hong Kong Golf Club have opened it up after 6p.m, weekdays, to the public. Yes it’s quite far if you live on Hong Kong Island, but there’s no true driving range (at least in our definition) on Hong Kong Island, and you can get to the Hong Kong Golf Club in about 35-45 minutes from Central going through the Western Tunnel. The balls are always new (they must throw the old ones away any sign of use), the mats are simply awesome, and the range itself is great. We’d happily go there everyday if we bothered to practice at all.

What other Golf Driving Range in Hong Kong is worth considering? We’ll tackle that question in another blog post.
